The Renate couch is a zero-waste solution to fast furniture. Made from airbag offcuts, deadstock denim, shredded plastic bags and recycled polyester, it not only reduces material production, but diverts waste from the landfill.

Scrap fabric was used to make baskets and pillows.

MATERIALS

AIRBAG FABRIC

  • Scrap fabric from automobile companies. Each square foot of material diverts 26.5 lbs of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

DEADSTOCK DENIM

  • Scrap material from retired companies/ designs.

SHREDDED PLASTIC BAGS

  • The only energy used is that of the machine shredder. Replaces polyurethane foam filling.

Foam Offcuts

  • Scraps from large upholstery projects.

Polyester Webbing

  • Made from recycled nylon.

Wood

  • Reused wood boards used to support concrete construction. After being used to hold up drying concrete in buildings, these pieces are discarded.
